A man who found a pair of designer boots in a charity shop was left gobsmacked when he checked the price tag – as they were supposed to be worth up to £900

Rummaging through charity shops can be a bit hit-or-miss. These stores rely on donations from locals, meaning each one boasts a completely unique selection. But if you’re after a bargain, charity shops can be treasure troves – not only might you snag a bargain, but you’ll be supporting a worthy cause as well.

One man on social media recently had the surprise of his life when he popped into a charity shop and stumbled upon a pair of boots with an eye-watering retail price of £900. Clocking the price tag left him absolutely gobsmacked, as he couldn’t fathom the incredible deal he was about to secure.

In a video posted on TikTok by Lola Amuah, she and her boyfriend, Pete, visited a Save The Children charity shop in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, after hearing whispers that the store receives “all their donations from London “.

Reasoning that those living in the capital must have deeper pockets and therefore donate pricier items, they dashed to the shop to see what gems they could unearth – and weren’t let down.

Lola initially discovered a blue dress by the brand & Other Stories, tagged at a mere £9 in the charity shop. Whilst that particular dress is no longer listed on the brand’s website, the most affordable one currently available from the company will set you back £55 brand new.

The woman then stumbled upon a denim shirt, which Pete identified as Eddie Bauer, a renowned brand specialising in premium outdoor clothing and outerwear. Whilst they didn’t reveal the price tag, these shirts typically retail for around £60 brand new.

Discussing the find, Lola enthused: “Everyone needs to buy one of these. They’re always in a charity shop, and they’re just such a staple. I’m not even wearing one today, but I should be.”

However, after moving past the shirt, Pete struck gold. He approached Lola, clutching a pair of black boots, urging her to check the label inside.

When she did, her jaw dropped and she immediately asked Pete what the charity shop was charging for the mysterious footwear – boots that would set you back a staggering £900 new.

The boots were from Loewe. Whilst they’re no longer available on the brand’s website, the cheapest men’s boots currently listed there command an eye-watering £1,100 price tag.

So what did Pete actually pay for the designer boots? A mere £9.

In the clip, he announced he would snap them up “just because [he] can”, seemingly suggesting he wasn’t particularly keen on the shoes themselves but couldn’t resist such an incredible bargain.

Viewers were gobsmacked by the price, though many ribbed the style of the black boots, joking that simply having a designer label doesn’t automatically guarantee they’re stylish or fashionable.

Some also lambasted Pete and Lola for “only caring about the label”, but Lola hit back, stating that her mission is to demonstrate that shopping at charity shops is worthwhile so that more people give their local stores a go.

She said: “I actually don’t care about the brand, but my hope is to bring more people into charity shops. Many say ‘it’s all tat’, or ‘it’s all Shein’, and that’s just not true. You can find insanely high-quality items that anyone can afford, and I love that about thrifting.”
