A woman’s charity shop outing took a surprising turn when she uncovered two highly sought-after items she’d been hunting for, known to fetch good prices on the resale market

Charity shops have all sorts of hidden gems waiting to be found, and bargain hunters enjoy the thrill of unearthing rare or valuable items. One woman recently struck gold during her hunt in a charity shop.

Amy, known on social media as The Hustle Mumma, is a reseller who sources items from charity shops to sell on for a profit. These second-hand stores are renowned for their affordable items, which occasionally hold a value far greater than their selling price. The smart shopper hit the jackpot after discovering two plush toys from the popular brand Jellycat at a St Michael’s Hospice shop.

She expressed her happiness in a TikTok video, exclaiming: “I hit charity shop goal today in this charity shop and found two very rare items that I have been looking for for a very long time.”

As she wandered through the charity shop, filled with racks of adult and children’s clothing, toys, and accessories like bags and hats, something tucked away in a basket on the floor piqued her interest.

After closer inspection, Amy realised it was a giant white Jellycat bunny. She estimates they resell for between £40 and £60, but she managed to snap up the toy from the charity shop for just £1.

The reseller continued her search through the assortment of plush toys and came across another Jellycat.

Amy managed to bag a woolly mammoth toy, which she had seen being sold online for £68, for just £1 again.

This meant she only spent £2 altogether on the two sought after items. Her TikTok video has racked up thousands of views and received a number of likes and comments.

One user gushed: “That’s amazing, my dream.” Another echoed: “Amazing. My dream to find a Jellycat, not sure I could part with it though.”

A third remarked: “I can’t believe that they charged you £1 each!!! What a find, lucky day for you.”

While a different user exclaimed: “Amazing finds! I never come across Jellycats for that price anymore.”

Someone else commented: “You hit the Jellycat lottery.” Jellycat, founded in London, is renowned for using high-quality, luxurious materials for its extremely soft plush toys that are recognised for their unique, distinctive designs.

The brand frequently launches limited-edition designs, and once a particular plush sells out, it’s never restocked, making these toys difficult to come by.

Also, the company regularly discontinues certain plush toys to introduce new collections, which makes these retired pieces highly sought after, especially among collectors.

Because of their scarcity, Jellycat toys tend to increase in value, with some from the ‘Amuseables’ range reportedly reselling for more than £350.
