A huge blaze has erupted in Birmingham, with scores of firefighters rushing to an industrial estate following reports that a factory had caught fire.
Emergency services were called to the scene near Tyseley shortly after 7pm on Wednesday, January 7, with an initial deployment of 40 firefighters tackling the inferno. West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) quickly doubled their presence as flames continued to consume the substantial brick structure on Seeleys Road, reports Birmingham Live..
The fire service initially reported: “We have 10 crews in attendance at Seeleys Road, Greet, Birmingham, where they have responded to a large fire.”
Since the initial callout at 7pm, WMFS has significantly increased its response, with nearly 80 crew members now working at the factory fire. The emergency operation at Tyseley Industrial Estate now comprises 14 fire engines, three hydraulic platforms, specialist units, and fire officers.
Images released by crews show the substantial building engulfed in flames. Firefighters have confirmed that the blaze has now spread throughout the entire 100 metre x 40 metre factory.
Fire crews remain on site and are continuing their efforts to bring the fire under control. They have also urged members of the public to avoid the industrial estate.
Residents living nearby have been advised to close all windows and doors to prevent the inhalation of smoke or fumes.
