A large group of young people were involved in a fight in Manchester city centre on Friday night, police said, with further outbreaks of violence on Saturday too

Violent scenes broke out in Manchester this weekend after a group of teenagers were involved in a mass brawl in the street.

Police rushed to the city centre on Friday after the mob of youths began fighting outside the Marks and Spencer store at the junction with Market Street and Corporation Street. Footage shared on social media shows a large group of people fighting while a crowd gathered to film the incident on their mobile phones.

It is believed there were also further outbreaks of disorder on Saturday evening. Police said a 23-year-old man was arrested for assault following an incident on Saturday.

The force added that CCTV footage is being reviewed to “identify further offences and those involved”, the Manchester Evening News reported. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “Our officers were called to reports of disorder on Friday and Saturday evening in Manchester city centre. Groups of youths had gathered and there were reports of fights.

“However, on each occasion we responded quickly and the crowds dispersed. One male, 23, was arrested for assault on Saturday. Dispersal orders was authorised on both Friday and Saturday. GMP are currently reviewing CCTV to identify any further offences and identify those involved.

“We will have extra patrols in the city throughout the Easter holidays and won’t hesitate to use all the tools at our disposal, including further disposal orders. The city centre is a public place to be enjoyed safely by everyone and our officers will be out and about to make sure that happens.”

Earlier this year, a mass brawl at a school involving several children in which several punches and kicks were thrown was caught in a shocking video shared online. In the clip, multiple punches could be seen thrown before one person fell onto the ground and was then jumped on by two other youngsters. Further kicks and punches could be seen thrown in the horrifying footage, before others became involved in the highly chaotic scenes.

The fight broke out near Hazel Wood High School, near Bury, Greater Manchester at around 3.30pm, shortly after school finished for the day. Footage allowed a large group of youths, thought to have involved students, becoming involved in the disturbance, MEN reported.

One concerned parent said: “I’m heartbroken this is the type of world we are living in. I was told via my child two boys were set upon by more than ten other students. I’m petrified of my son going back because he has also been the victim of bullying. I was sent the videos from another child’s mother who was worrying her child was involved, but luckily they weren’t.”
