A property listing on Rightmove appears to offer people in Lincoln the opportunity to buy a ‘197 bedroom terraced house’ near the cathedral for a cool £11.5million – but all is not as it seems
House hunters have been left baffled by a property listing that offers an impressive 197 bedrooms.
The “terraced house”, situated near Lincoln’s iconic cathedral, is on the market for a cool £11.5million according to Rightmove – with typical monthly mortgage repayments quoted at more than £60,000.
Despite being billed as a “197 bedroom terraced house” the listing is actually for an entire portfolio of student properties “comprising 34 freehold houses and flats”. The 197 bedrooms are spread across a mix of four, five and six bedroom terraced houses and one, two, and three bedroom flats. Buyers are reassured they can recoup some of their investment by issuing rental costs to tenants to the value of more than £645,000 per annum.
However, without reading the listing properly one might assume a monstrous home with 197 bedrooms really was on offer. This caught the attention of people on Reddit, where a screenshot of the listing was shared with the caption: “Don’t think there’s enough bedrooms.” One user quipped in response: “I’m looking for a minimum 200 bed home. This won’t do.”
Another joked: “How many bathrooms? Nothing worse than having 197 bedrooms and not enough bathrooms.” A third added: “It doesn’t sit right with me that they stopped at 197. They were only 3 bedrooms away.”
A fourth mocked Channel 4’s Location, Location, Location show, mimicking the kind of commentary heard from hosts Kirstie Allsopp and Phil Spencer. “Melanie and Keith are looking for a spacious, period family home, with enough space for their 7 year old son Kylan and their asthmatic Jack Russell Terrier,” the user wrote. “Keith owns a tie shop on Regent Street and Melanie runs a care home for elderly butterflies. They have a budget of 5million pounds.”
Others admitted they thought the listing was for the entire cathedral, given the number of rooms and the first image that appears on Rightmove. One said: “My dumb a** thought the cathedral was listed for sale.” A second said: “It’s not? Oh…”
