‘I didn’t feel the pain, I was in shock at the time – I just noticed the blood was coming out of my hand’
A Manchester salon owner faced a terrifying ordeal when a car smashed straight into her shop as she was closing for the day.
Ndeye Sarr, 50, was at Dixa Hair and Beauty on Hyde Road when the shocking crash occurred at around 6pm on Thursday, January 8.
Ms Sarr went to hospital to be checked over but miraculously avoided serious injury. She revealed that a female staff member had also narrowly escaped harm while waiting for her bus outside but had been called back inside by Ms Sarr to escape the cold, potentially avoiding a far worse outcome.
Speaking after the incident, Ms Sarr described the crash as “shocking” and said she is still coming to terms with how close everyone came to serious injury.
Speaking to Manchester Evening News, she said: “I close sometime around six,” Ms Sarr told the Manchester Evening News. “One of my workers was waiting for her bus. I told her to wait inside to see the bus, because it was cold outside.
She told how she suddenly heard a ‘big massive noise’. She said: “I closed my eyes after I saw lots of glass coming, I covered my eyes with my hands. Lots of glass went on me and her as well.
“I have little scratches in my hands. We were in A&E until 1.30am. It was bleeding. I didn’t feel the pain, I was in shock at the time. I just noticed the blood was coming out of my hand. They checked and didn’t see any glass inside.
“The police were asking me [questions] but I couldn’t even speak because the thing was so fast, and I was in shock.”
Ms Sarr, who has run the salon for six years, said she is still experiencing some pain but has already reopened the business to welcome her customers.
She said: “I have a headache, I’m taking painkillers. I’m feeling a little bit tired, I think it’s the stress. The customers are good, they are always calling me and checking.”
She worries the repairs could run into thousands as she works to restore the salon to its former state. Hyde Road remained closed for several hours while emergency services dealt with the crash.
Police said a 21-year-old man had been detained on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified, and driving without a licence.
