‘I didn’t have to do a thing, Nous did everything for me’
Millions of households could be paying more than they need to for their energy bills, particularly with another increase on the horizon. Experts are warning that average energy costs are set to rise by more than £220 a year from July following changes to the Ofgem price cap, prompting many households to look for ways to cut costs without adding more admin to their lives.
For those who don’t have the time to compare tariffs, track contract end dates or spend hours researching providers, one free service is helping homeowners potentially save up to £250 a year. Designed to do the hard work on behalf of users, the tool automatically checks whether households are overpaying and finds better-value deals when available.
Nous.co is an AI-powered money-saving service that monitors household bills and identifies opportunities to reduce costs. Rather than requiring users to repeatedly compare prices themselves, the platform handles the process automatically, helping households avoid being caught out by rising rates or expensive renewal deals.
According to the company, a typical household could save around £250 a year on gas and electricity compared with July’s new price cap by switching through the service. The savings come at a time when many households remain on standard variable tariffs despite cheaper fixed deals being available elsewhere.
The brand says one of the biggest reasons people overpay is simply because they don’t have the time or headspace to keep track of changing prices. The brand adds that data from YouGov suggests that 83% of Brits have not switched energy suppliers within the last 12 months, potentially missing out on significant savings.

Greg Marsh, household finance expert and CEO of Nous, said: “With energy bills set to rise by more than £220 from July, millions of households are at risk of throwing money away by remaining on expensive variable tariffs when cheaper fixed deals are available. In fact, a typical household could save roughly £250 a year on energy alone compared to the new July price cap by switching with Nous.
“The problem is that most people don’t have the time to constantly monitor the market, compare tariffs and manage the switching process. Nous removes that hassle by checking where households are overpaying, finding fair deals and handling the switch on your behalf.”
The platform doesn’t just focus on energy either. It keeps track of household contracts and renewals, aiming to help users avoid loyalty penalties and unexpected price increases across a range of services.
MoneySuperMarket is another service customers can try. This one offers comparison of cheap energy deals and, according to their website, there are savings up to £791 available.
The company Uswitch does similar and it offers deals for energy, broadband, SIM only and mobile phones. It offers comparisons for big names including BT, Sky, Plusnet, Vodafone, TalkTalk, Virgin Media and a variety of others, the site says.
Nous.co has gained positive reviews from customers, however. One person said: “It was recommended to me, so thought I’d try and straight away my electricity supplier was changed and I’m saving over £300. I didn’t have to do a thing, Nous did everything for me. I’ll definitely recommend them.”
Another said: “Nous informed me about decisions at every step of the way when having to switch to a new energy deal (which they found) and I didn’t really need to do anything. Can recommend.”
Some removed a star, as one person said: “Nous have already saved us money, the comms was great and super helpful. The transition to a new provider was so smooth, and I really didn’t have to do anything! Just dropped a star as the account set up with the new provider took a bit of sorting, and was resolved super quick though.”
Another wrote: “The changeover was very straightforward. I have saved money by changing. The only downside is I haven’t been able to set up an online account.”
Overall, most people were pleased, though, as another person said: “Great experience. Easy instructions and replied to any questions immediately. Switching was so easy. I highly recommend it.”
