The customer’s clever money-saving hack is perfect for anyone who enjoys displaying flowers in their home

A shopper has a “genius” money-saving hack perfect for anyone who loves flowers. Mel Lloyd (@my_neutral_place) shared the tip with followers on her popular TikTok account, where she regularly posts DIY tips and home decor inspiration.

In a recent video, Mel revealed how a £5.99 Home Bargains basket saved her money. As the savvy shopper explained, she added potted plants to the basket to create a beautiful indoor display rather than buying cut flowers. Given the arrangement should last for months, it will save Mel a pretty penny.

Praising the basket, Mel wrote: “This lined country style basket is just perfect for plants. I think it makes a lovely Spring / Easter centrepiece. It would look great outside too… in fact I might need to go back to Home Bargains to buy another!”

She added: “Very tempting at £5.99! If you’ve already got a suitable size basket you could easily line it with plastic and use that, saving even more money!”

The video received over 20,000 views, and viewers loved the idea. Someone praised: “Lovely,” a second said: “Genius,” and a third liked the idea for their garden. Another commenter pointed out that drainage could be an issue, something green-fingered shoppers might want to keep in mind when caring for their plants.

Home Bargains offers a wide selection of baskets and plant pots for anyone keen to add to their home or garden. For instance, the retailer offers the Jardin Corn Leaf Rope & Ferm Wall Hanging Basket, the Jardin Hanging Basket – 12″ Butterfly, the Jardin Corn Leaf Rope & Fern Cone Hanging Basket, and the Jardin Corn Leaf Rope & Fern Round Hanging Basket, all for £2.99 each.

From £2.49, there’s also The Outdoor Living Collection Hanging Planter, available in grey or green, and from £4.49, there’s the The Outdoor Living Collection Cup & Saucer Planter, also in grey or green.
