The latest rare coin to turn heads on social media is a very special one and apparently there could be millions out there. So when was the last time you checked your wallets?

A very special coin is turning heads on social media.

The rare coin, which apparently has millions out there in circulation, could be worth more than face value. According to TikTok user @CoinCollectingWizard, it’s the “holy grail” and definitely worth keeping an eye on.

In a post with his 211,000 followers, he wrote in the caption: “Who remembers putting a six pence in your Christmas pudding?” He then begins the clip by revealing the coin everyone’s looking for is the 1952 six pence.

He added: “Around one million of these coins were produced which makes it a relatively low mintage compared to others. The pre-decimal six pence as equaled one fortieth to a pound sterling or six pence sterling.

“It’s the holy grail of six pence coin collecting, these continued to be legal tender for a while after the currency became decimal in 1971. But are now long from UK change, however collectors are still wanting them in their collections.”

When revealing the value, the TikTok user claimed it all depends on a few factors – including condition. He claimed a poor grade six pence can be worth £30, while you’d have to image what one in mint condition could sell.

The 1952 six pence is a British coin featuring King George VI and is made of cupro-nickel. Its obverse features an uncrowned portrait of King George VI, while the reverse is a cypher of the royal with the date divided to either side and the crown above.

The legend “FID DEF” is around the top, with the word “SIXPENCE” below. The six pence was worth six pennies (as you might have guessed). It was first minted in silver in 1551 during the reign of Edward VI and turned into a cupro-nicek after 1947.

It was sometimes known as a tanner or half-shilling, and has not been produced for circulation since 1967. You can find 1952 six pences for sale on eBay. To look for a rare coin in your change, it’s worth doing your research first.

There’s multiple factors which make coins more valuable than others, like circulation and condition. Since this was shared on TikTok, the post racked up multiple likes and comments as one said: “I have four in my collection.”
