Dad-of-one Ryan Bryden, from Scotland, suffered a rare spinal stroke that left him paralysed from the neck down but went on to defy medical expectations
A grieving mum has paid a moving tribute to her “remarkable” son who defied medical odds after a rare spinal stroke left him suffering “relentless” health issues.
Ryan Bryden, from Scotland, tragically passed away from respiratory failure at Edinburgh’s Western General Hospital on February 1. He was just 36. In 2010, the dad suffered a rare spinal stroke that left him paralysed from the neck down.
Despite being given only months to live, Ryan went on to defy medical expectations regaining significant use of his hands and arms and survived an extraordinary 14 years beyond his prognosis. He was working as a DJ in Edinburgh before his death, the Daily Record reported. Paying tribute, his grieving mum Andrea Bryden said: “Ryan passed away at just 36 years old after a remarkable life defined by resilience and determination.
“Ryan’s journey was marked by relentless battles with health challenges, including heart strokes and pneumonia, yet he never lost hope. His unwavering spirit was fuelled by his love for his son, Cameron, and his desire to inspire him to persevere against all odds.
Deeply spiritual in his later years, Ryan found solace in faith and lived life to the fullest. From nightclubs to family gatherings, he embraced every moment with joy and optimism. Ryan was the most funny, happy, upbeat and best brother ever.
“A credible body to the creative industry. I’m in bits beyond belief. He’s leaving this world but rest assured it was before his time. He needs to rest. His legacy of courage and hope will forever inspire those who knew him. My sweet darling we all love you so much, your charm, funniness and your love for life. Your 10 siblings have the biggest angel. Rest in peace, Ryan.”
Ryan is survived by his parents, five brothers and five sisters and his beloved son Cameron. A funeral service will be held for Ryan at Old Parish Church on Montgomery Street, East Kilbride, this Saturday, February 22, at 9am, then on to South Lanarkshire Crematorium.
