Connor Slade, 13, died on the grounds of Melin Primary School, in Neath, South Wales, with an investigation launched by police into what happened as his family paid tribute
A boy who was found dead at a primary school has been named as his family said they were “heartbroken”.
Connor Slade, 13, died on the grounds of Melin Primary School, in Neath, South Wales, leading to it being closed on Wednesday. An investigation has been launched by South Wales Police who said it was “not being treated as suspicious”.
It is understood that the boy’s body was found on the premises in the early hours of Wednesday and an investigation is looking into why he was there especially as at 13 he was past primary school age. Connor’s aunt Rebecca Morgan has set up a GoFundMe page and spoke of the sadness for his parents.
“Tragically and suddenly my sister lost her 13 year old son Connor Slade,” she wrote in the fundraiser. “As you can imagine for her and all of his friends and family we are heart broken.
“I am posting this fund me page for any help we can raise to help towards his funeral cost to give him the best send off possible without my sister and Connor’s father having worry about costs. I want this to be the least of their worries and be able to grieve him. We appreciate anything that can be donated. Thank you. Connor Slade – Forever13”
Acting headteacher Danielle Harris wrote a letter to parents and guardians saying that support services will be available at the school. She wrote yesterday: “We want to inform you that Melin Primary School (infant and junior sites) will reopen tomorrow (Thursday 30th January) following a tragic incident that occurred on the school grounds in the early hours of this morning.
“We understand that recent events have been distressing, and we want to assure you that the wellbeing of our students, staff and wider school community remains our top priority. Support services will be available at the school to assist anyone in need.
“If your child requires additional support please do not hesitate to reach out to us. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this difficult time.”
A Neath Port Talbot Council spokesman said: “We are extremely saddened to hear this tragic news and our thoughts go out to the family, South Wales Police officers are currently investigating and the council will offer any possible assistance.”
