Following the heartbreak of losing her six-month-old baby to Sudden Death Syndrome, Paula from Blantyre started suffering seizures from two brain tumours before passing away in November

A Lanarkshire grandmother devastated by a double death tragedy has opened up about her anguish after losing her granddaughter and daughter within just nine months of each other.

Shattered Diane Edgar has honoured the memory of Paula, 34, and her granddaughter Pixie, revealing that Christmas will be an agonising period without them both. Tiny six-month-old Pixie heartbreakingly died from Sudden Death Syndrome (SDS) whilst being bathed by her mother earlier this year.

Paula had conceived Pixie mere months before Christmas the previous year. After enduring the agony of losing her infant, the mother began experiencing seizures caused by two brain tumours.

The prospect of enduring Christmas without her precious daughter proved too much for devastated Paula, who suddenly died in November, leaving Diane, from Blantyre, and relatives utterly crushed.

Speaking to GlasgowLive, she revealed: “Paula was the bubbliest, happiest and kindest person that you could ever meet. She was just high on life and loved life. That all went away when Pixie passed. She was a shell.”, reports Glasgow Live.

Diane continued: “She told me since she was 16 that she wanted to have a child. By a miracle, she fell pregnant with Pixie. Pixie was her entire world. She would never let anyone help. She was so devoted to that beautiful wee girl. Her first Christmas was the happiest we ever had. She was one of the most wonderful wee souls out there.”

Reflecting on the upcoming Christmas season, Diane shared: “Paula had such a big, loud and infectious laugh and now it’s just silent. Christmas is going to be tough without her.

“Everyone felt her loss because she was so popular in the area. We will remember her for the wonderful wee soul that she was and how important she was to the 1000s of people that she touched during her life. She was my wee sidekick and I don’t know what I will do without her. She was one in a million. I’ll miss her laugh the most.”
