Chloe Watson, 16, died in hospital after neighbours performed CPR on the teenager as she was found unconscious on the street having been stabbed in the back ‘over a boy’
A neighbour has shared the heartbreaking 10-minute battle to save a girl, 16, who was stabbed in the back ‘over a boy’.
Chloe Watson died after being found unconscious on Kennerleigh Avenue in Austhorpe, Leeds, at 5.55am on Saturday, March 28.
Leeds resident, Wayne Mallows, has described how alongside other locals he tried to save the ‘lifeless’ girl.
The 64-year-old performed CPR on the ‘beautiful, bubbly’ teenager on the pavement near his house.
“I was called out of the house about 5.50am on Saturday morning by a dog walker,” he told the Mirror.
“She said that my neighbour was outside doing CPR on a young girl. He was getting tired.
“I asked if they’d rung an ambulance and then I realised that a phone was on the ground and he had it on loudspeaker. Ambulance control were giving him instructions.
“I took over until the ambulance arrived 10 minutes later. She had been stabbed in the back and there was quite a bit of blood. Her eyes were just blank.”
Mr Mallows explained that the road is usually very quiet and home to many retirees.
“When the ambulance arrived around 6am the paramedics got all the kit out and tried to reactive the heart and they were doing chest compressions,” he added.
“They did that for about five minutes and then got her into the ambulance. Police were arriving all the time.
“In my mind I have a picture of her face.
“To me she looked very young, younger than 16.”
Chloe suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital, where she was sadly pronounced dead shortly afterwards, West Yorkshire Police said.
A GoFundMe has been set up for Chloe, with relative Shantelle Watson expressing the family is ‘distraught’
Shantelle wrote: “My 16-year-old cousin’s life was sadly taken in tragedy. 16 years young. She didn’t even make it to her 18th – her whole life was taken in a flash over a boy. Her mum is distraught; she has left two younger siblings behind.”
A senior investigating officer said police are “treating her death as murder and have arrested four people in connection with it”.
Two 18-year-old women, a 20-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy were arrested on suspicion of murder on Saturday. All four remain in police custody while a crime scene is in place and officers carry out enquiries.
The senior investigating officer, Detective Chief Superintendent Marc Bowes, said previously: “Following our appeal for further information yesterday, we have now identified the deceased as a 16-year-old girl from the Cleckheaton area. Her family have been informed and we are supporting them as they try to come to terms with what has happened.
“Our inquiries into the incident which led to her death are continuing, and I would appeal again to anyone who was in the Kennerleigh Avenue area in the early hours of yesterday morning to come forward if they have any information which could assist our investigation.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact police by calling 101 or using the online live chat function, quoting log number 280 of March 28. Information can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111 or visiting the Crimestoppers website.
