Alfie Taylor, 21, from Blackpool, was left fighting for his life after he fell off a roof at work. He endured serious brain injuries and later died in hospital

A young man has tragically died after he plummeted from the roof of a building whilst he was working.

Alfie Taylor, 21, from Blackpool, was rushed to hospital with a serious brain injury earlier this month. He sadly fell from the roof of a flat at his job. Doctors at the Royal Preston Hospital battled to save him, but despite undergoing several operations, his “injuries were too severe”.

The 21-year-old, who was a Blackpool FC fan, has been described as a “beautiful soul” who had an “infectious smile”. Members of the community are set to honour his memory with a round of applause in the 21st minute of the Blackpool and Leyton Orient match on Sunday.

Dawn Wilson, who set up a GoFundMe page, wrote: “With a heavy heart, I share the devastating news that we have lost our beloved Alfie Taylor at just 21 years old. His life was only just beginning, and his passing has left a hole in the hearts of everyone who knew him.

“Nine days ago, while at work, Alfie tragically fell from a flat roof and sustained a severe brain injury. Despite the incredible efforts of the team at Preston Hospital, multiple operations couldn’t save him. His injuries were too severe, and he sadly passed away. Alfie was a kind, funny, and much-loved young man. His infectious smile could light up any room, and he had a heart of gold.

“He was incredibly popular among his friends and within the Blackpool community, known for his love of football and his unwavering loyalty to those he cared about. In his final act of kindness, Alfie became an organ donor, giving the gift of life to others—just as he would have wanted.”

Tributes have since poured in on Facebook from locals and loved ones. One pal wrote: “These past few days have been the most heartbreaking and devastating days of my life knowing I will never get to see one of my best friends face ever again.

“Alfie Taylor, You truly were a beautiful soul to everyone. A great brother, son and friend. No matter what, you would always take the time to check up on me if we hadn’t seen each other for a while, and you’d always ask if I wanted to meet up and maybe go for a drink and catch up and it breaks my heart knowing that I will never be able to have that final drink and chat with you. My thoughts and prayers are with his beautiful family.”

Another person commented: “RIP Alfie Taylor. Blackpool FC fan and a well known person around Blackpool especially for a well known regular stopping off for a cheeky pint at the pubs. Should never go to soon! We must stop young lives being cut short.” A third person said: “Words cannot describe how we are all feeling. It was a pleasure watching you grow into an amazing young man, you will be greatly missed. RIP Alfie Taylor.”

Hundreds of people have donated to the fundraiser to help him get the special “send-off he deserves”. The page was only launched on March 14 but has already gathered more than £13,000. The organiser added: “Losing a child is unimaginable, and no family should have to worry about funeral costs during such an overwhelming time. If you can donate, no matter how big or small, it would mean the world. Let’s come together to honour Alfie’s memory and give him the farewell he deserves.”
