Certain batches could emit feedback which may damage your hearing
An urgent safety recall has been issued for a headset over concerns that it could damage people’s hearing. The 3M Peltor Comtac VIII Headset has been recalled over concerns about feedback noise.
The headset is designed to give ‘critical radio communications’ for people in combat and combat support operations. Made in Sweden, it is described as ‘over the ear hearing protection and communications headset designed for military and civil defence personnel’.
But there are fears that it could emit feedback noise that will damage people’s hearing. The full warning reads: “The product presents a serious risk of hearing loss because affected batches may emit feedback noise (measured up to 106 dBA) through the headset speakers.
“The likelihood of occurrence of this issue can be increased in cold ambient temperatures and with a depleted battery state. The product does not meet the requirements of the Regulation (EU) 2016/425 on Personal Protective Equipment and the applicable standards: EN 352-1:2020, EN 352-4:2020, EN 352-6:2020.”
The recall notice states that the product has been recalled from distributors by 3M United Kingdom PLC. A Stop Use Notification has been issued. The recall is applicable to headsets manufactured between November 27 2025 and February 6 2026.
The model numbers that are affected are MT14H418A-02, MT14H418A-35, MT14H418A-38, MT14H418A-86, MT14H418A-87, and MT14H418A-90. the recall notice was issued on Wednesday, July 29.
The recall notice has been issued by the Office for Product Safety & Standards. The lead authority is the Health and Safety Executive, and the PSD case number is 2607-0161.
