It was announced this week that the Halifax name will disappear after 173 years

Halifax is soon being rebranded to Lloyds – and for the most part, customers should not have to do anything as part of the switch.

If you are a Halifax customer, your account will eventually be rebranded to Lloyds. Your account numbers and sort codes will stay the same, but one thing you will eventually have to do, is move over from the Halifax app to the Lloyds app.

It was announced this week that the Halifax name will disappear after 173 years. Halifax branches will be rebranded to Lloyds over the course of 2027.

Some existing Halifax customers have been sent the following message on their banking app: “Halifax has been part of the same family as Lloyds for many years, and soon, the Halifax brand will change to Lloyds.

“Over time, the brand of your Halifax accounts will change to Lloyds. You don’t need to do anything yet, and your account details will stay the same.

“Soon, when you log in, we’ll be asking you to start using the Lloyds app. It’s very similar to this one, and just as easy to use. Once you’re invited, you can move across in a few quick steps.

“We’ll never ask you to share personal details or move money by phone, email or text. Links or QR codes will be shared for information only.

“We won’t ask you to log in or verify yourself using them. We’re here to answer any questions you may have.”

Halifax and Bank of Scotland have been part of Lloyds Banking Group since 2009. Lloyds insisted it was “committed to its role in the town of Halifax, and the wider Yorkshire and Humber region”.

It pointed out that it recently made a £116million investment its Trinity Road office in Halifax town centre and the 3,000 colleagues based there “will continue to play a key role in the Group’s future”.

Lloyds Banking Group previously announced 79 new closures on top of 95 already planned over the coming year, across the three brands. This will leave the group with 531 branches in total across the UK, of which about 190 will be former Halifax outlets.

Jas Singh, CEO, Consumer Relationships at Lloyds Banking Group: “As Halifax changes to Lloyds, our Halifax customers will keep everything they know and love today – the same fantastic app design, the same friendly faces in our branches – even the same sort code and account number. But as Lloyds customers, they’ll get the best innovation and experiences we offer.”

“Our Lloyds customers are already benefiting from a significant investment into propositions like Club Lloyds, Lloyds Premier, Lloyds Ultra and Lloyds Rewards – and now we’re really excited that Halifax customers can bank on Lloyds for more.”
