A survey of 1,000 office workers by LinkedIn found they wanted flexibility on when to be in an office, despite many recognising the benefits of in-person interactions such as stronger relationship building, greater engagement in meetings and faster decision-making

New research suggests that workers are demanding real value from their office returns, not just more desk time.

A LinkedIn survey of 1,000 office workers revealed a desire for flexible office attendance, despite acknowledging the benefits of face-to-face interactions like better relationship building, more engaging meetings, and quicker decision-making.

Half of those surveyed don’t want employers to mandate office attendance beyond current hybrid setups. About 70% think it’s reasonable for bosses to expect in-person collaboration when it’s clearly beneficial.

Janine Chamberlin, head of LinkedIn UK, commented: “The future of work isn’t about forcing people back into the office, it’s about making sure that when they do come in, it’s worth it.”

She added: “The companies that get this right – those that create spaces for meaningful collaboration, idea-sharing, and relationship-building – will be the ones that keep their best talent engaged. That starts with listening to employees and making in-person moments truly valuable.”
