The new product will go on sale for £1.35 on Thursday and follows the huge success of Greggs’ classic sausage roll and its vegan alternative

Greggs is launching a chicken version of its famous sausage roll as a new permanent menu item.

The chicken roll is described by the bakery chain as “seasoned chicken wrapped in layers of crisp, golden, glazed puff pastry”.

It will go on sale for £1.35 on Thursday and follows the huge success of Greggs’ classic sausage roll and its vegan alternative.

Greggs fans can be first to try the chicken roll at a pop-up VHS store at 15 Bateman Street in London this Wednesday between 3.30pm and 9pm.

The pop-up will feature a secret doorway adorned with roll-themed VHS tapes ranging from Lord of the Rolls, The Rollfather to The Devil Wears Pastry.

Customers must arrive as part of a trio of friends or family – a nod to three different type of sausage roll products now available – with places given on a first-come first-served basis.

The high street retailer will also be handing out free chicken-themed cocktails and mocktails.

A Greggs spokeswoman said: “They say the best things come in threes, and our iconic roll trilogy is no exception.

“We’ve given our ‘new chick on the block’ the ultimate A-list treatment to ensure it’s a blockbuster hit with fans across the nation.

“We can’t wait for our customers to experience the Chicken Roll as the ultimate headline act of our flaky franchise.”

It comes after Greggs announced it will be launching a brand-new big breakfast wrap in 82 shops across Yorkshire, filled with sausage, bacon, cheesy omelette, and a hash brown.

The breakfast wrap is available before 11am in trial stores. Last month, Greggs revealed plans to start selling its pastry snacks from a vending machine.

Bosses are looking at rolling out “unattended retail solutions” would include “both automated and manual vending solutions”.

No exact date or locations have been revealed for when they could launch.

Greggs also reported a drop in its statutory pre-tax profits, which fell by 17.9% to £167.4million for the year to December 27.

The company blamed tough market backdrop and a “spell of particularly hot weather”. Greggs had 121 net store openings in 2025 and is targeting around 120 further openings this year.

Its latest financial results revealed Greggs has 2,739 locations and wants to grow this to “significantly more than 3,000 UK shops over longer term”.

Greggs has come under fire over increased prices in recent years but last month said no further price rises are currently planned for this year.
