Patio Magic! Concentrate is said to be ideal for patios, paths and driveways

As we transition into the warmer months, maximising your outdoor space becomes a priority. If you’ve chosen to have a patio over a lawn, you’ll appreciate the reduced maintenance.

However, one task that needs attention is keeping mould and algae in check. After the damp winter months, your patio might need a bit of sprucing up. But a product that gardeners are finding joy with Patio Magic! Concentrate. It’s said to be perfect for patios, paths, and driveways, and currently, a 5-litre bottle is available for £20, reports the Express.

This durable mould disinfectant can treat, remove, and prevent algae and lichens on hard surfaces, saving you from investing in a power hose or spending hours scrubbing manually. However, bear in mind that controlling lichens can take anywhere from two weeks to six months.

‘My bench that doubles up as a storage box is the best thing I’ve bought for my garden’

Gardener delighted with ‘very effective’ product that banishes ‘hours of weeding’

Lichens are composed of two or more different organisms, according to the Woodland Trust, which describes them as a ‘successful partnership’ between a fungus and an algae and/or cyanobacteria. As they’re non-parasitic, lichens don’t harm the plants they grow on, but if they’ve taken a liking to your patio, they can detract from the appearance of clean tiles.

Patio Magic! is a product that naturally decomposes in soil, starts working within days and lasts between 6-9 months. Crucially, it’s biodegradable and once the treated area is dry, there’s no need to keep children and pets away.

It can also be used on various surfaces such as garden ornaments, brickwork, masonry, caravans and greenhouses. This product is an algaecidal detergent, meaning it works effectively without the need for pressure application. However, it’s worth noting that areas constantly in shade or prone to water collection may experience a shorter period of effectiveness.

Given the abundance of gardening and outdoor products available, you might want to explore other options. Moss-Go from Mifica is a trade strength algae remover suitable for patios, roofs, fences and driveways. Once dried, it’s safe for pets and costs £24.99 for 5 litres.

Another well-known brand is Jeyes, which offers a multiuse outdoor cleaner priced at £35.99 for 5 litres from Screwfix. This product claims to kill 99.9% of bacteria and enveloped viruses, and can be used to clean paths, patios, decking and more, while also freshening up your drains.

When it comes to value for money, Patio Magic! Concentrate has received plenty of commendations. The product boasts a 4.3-star average rating on Amazon, with one user raving: “I’ve used this product multiple times and it’s really effective. Within a couple days of using it any green algae has completely disappeared and it stays clean for months. Wear old clothes when doing so though, as I got a few splashes of it on my trousers and it bleached them!” Another satisfied customer remarked: “Great product for removing green residue on stonework”.

Another shopper felt compelled to report back, saying: “I don’t often write reviews but I found this product to be brilliant. I diluted it in a watering can and poured on the patio yesterday. I came home from work today and all the yellow/green discolouration that had built up over the winter is gone! I didn’t expect it to work so quickly. There was some moss between slabs which is turning brown too. It will still need a quick powerwash and brush to remove any dirt but that shouldn’t be too difficult now.”

Despite the praise, the product didn’t impress everyone; a three-star critique read: “Did an OK job but not really worth the money”, while another individual expressed disappointment: “Had high hopes for this but after one good application couldn’t see much difference really. We still have some left so will give it another try in the spring.”
