Around 2.7 million people are set to benefit this year with letters on their way
People have been told to keep an eye out for a letter that will soon be posted through the doors of millions this month. According to the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, the letter should arrive on or by October 31.
The official government department revealed millions of households are eligible for extra support. Posting to the social media platform, it wrote: “If you’re eligible for the Warm Home Discount, look out for a letter from the end of October confirming you will get £150.”
However, it also warned that you may be at risk of getting scammed and to stay vigilant. It warns: “If you get a text or call asking you to apply for the discount, it could be a scam. Do not share your personal information.”
This one-off discount is usually applied directly to your energy bill by your supplier instead of being issued as a cash payment. However, if you pay using a pre-payment meter, you may receive the discount in the form of a voucher but this all depends on your supplier.
This voucher can be used to top up your meter. It’s estimated that around six million households will benefit from the discount – including an additional 2.7 million households due to this year’s expansion.
According to official guidelines, these are the means-tested benefits that could make you eligible for the Warm Home Discount:
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
- Housing Benefit
- Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
- Universal Credit
- Income Support
- The ‘Savings Credit’ part of Pension Credit
