The driver of the Skoda and the boy passenger, remain in hospital being treated for their injuries. The driver of the VW Golf R, a man in his 20s, suffered serious injuries and also remains in hospital. He is being treated as a witness in the investigation.
Sgt Laura Kendall, of the force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “It is heartbreaking news that the little girl has passed away and my thoughts first and foremost are with her family and loved ones. My thoughts also continue to be with the three people who remain in hospital being treated for the injuries they received in this terrible collision.”
She added: “We ask you to please refrain from speculating about what happened. The investigation will determine this and speculative comments around what might have happened can be very distressing for the family of the little girl.”
Sgt Kendall said the investigation into the collision is ongoing and appealed for anyone who witnessed it or has dashcam footage from the area around the time it happened to contact police.
