Finding the perfect pair of jeans can sometimes feel like an impossible task, but a simple hack has been shared online that allows you to check if they’re the right fit – without even trying them on

When it comes to retail therapy, we’re all in. But the hassle of trying on clothes before purchasing them? Not so much. Who really enjoys the process of undressing or enduring long queues for changing rooms?

While T-shirts and dresses can be relatively easy to size up, finding the perfect pair of jeans can be a daunting task. With mounting pressure on fashion brands to standardise their sizes, hunting for the ideal jeans can feel like a never-ending struggle – we’ve all been there.

Luckily, there’s a nifty trick that allows you to check if your denim will fit without having to squeeze into it. Ideal for when you unwrap a new pair on Christmas Day, Even better, all you need are your arms.

To determine if the jeans are the right waist size, simply use your forearm, from your elbow to your hand. Take your jeans and insert your arm into the waistband, with your elbow at one side and your hand clenched into a fist. If there’s space between the end of your hand and the other side of the jeans, they’ll be too big. If you can’t fit your fist inside, they’ll be too small.

However, if your arm fits snugly into the waistband without any struggle, then you’ve found your perfect size.

Feeling inspired to grab some new jeans? Our shopping writer Grace has discovered the perfect pair.

“I’ve always struggled to find the perfect pair of jeans. I’ve tried various shops, styles and washes but nothing ever seems to hit the mark. Either they’re too short in the leg, too loose around the waist or too tight on the thighs. But now, New Look’s new denim range has come to my rescue, with their Adalae style solving all my denim dilemmas,” she enthuses.

“The Adalae High Waist Wide-Leg jeans, priced at £34.99 here, come in seven different washes ranging from bleach denim to trendy chocolate brown and my personal winter favourite, a deep indigo shade. Normally, I’m not a fan of wide-leg styles, preferring straight-leg or more relaxed fits, but the Adalae style has completely won me over.”
