An 18-year-old has been arrested following a murder probe into the death of a 79-year-old man.

The pensioner was assaulted in Garforth, Leeds, around 6:30pm yesterday, according to police. West Yorkshire Police said the victim was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Detectives launched a murder probe following the death and the circumstances around it. Anyone who saw what happened has been asked to contact police.

West Yorkshire Police said in a statement: “Officers were called at 6.35pm yesterday (29 October) by the ambulance service that a 79 year old man had been assaulted. He was taken to hospital where he was sadly pronounced dead.

“An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody. Detectives from the Homicide and major Enquiry team are carrying out extensive enquiries.
