New TopCashback members can effectively bag a 1.5kg box of Verve grass seed for 73p at B&Q via a cashback deal – here’s how the offer works

With the clocks set to change and sunshine returning, plenty of us are eager to get outdoors again. However, one issue gardening enthusiasts frequently face following a prolonged, damp and chilly winter is their lawn appearing rather battered.

It’s an issue I face every spring, with insufficient sunlight leaving my grass looking decidedly sorry for itself. Fortunately, it’s readily fixed with some grass seed – and I’ve discovered a remarkable offer that means you can grab a 1.5kg box for under £1.

The Verve family and sport grass seed mix normally retails at £16 from B&Q. However, there’s a little-known promotion that will actually slash the cost to 73p.

It’s available through the money-saving platform TopCashback, where new members receive a £15 sign-up cashback incentive when spending £15 at a participating store. This means that for new TopCashback members and all B&Q shoppers, the final price works out at 73p once cashback is factored in.

B&Q states the box provides an average total coverage of 60m2 and is “durable and hard wearing”. Fresh grass should start emerging within one to two weeks, while the non perennial ryegrass blends can require 14-21 days, reports Wales Online.

Customer reviews posted so far have been largely very favourable. One commented: “Bought this to patch in areas where the dogs have been running. Spreads well, noticed growth about two weeks later so really happy.”

Another customer enthused: “Great coverage and good growth. Great colour and time to germinate was shorter than the box said. We’ve given it three cuts and it looks good. Versatile for dogs and kids.”

A third chimed in: “Excellent seed, took around 6 days to germinate and now we have a lovely lawn.” Meanwhile another added: “This grass seed is great quality and very fast growing. Highly recommend and worked out at a good price compared to other brands.”

Despite the largely positive feedback, there were a few negatives noted, including one purchaser who expressed they were “very disappointed with the result”. Another docked stars, stating they were “waiting for results”.

There’s also a wealth of alternative grass seed options available, such as on Amazon where a 1.4kg box of Pronto Seed, providing 84m2 coverage, is priced at £14.49. This is touted as being “durable” for high footfall areas and safe for dogs and cats.

Elsewhere, Wickes offers Gro-Sure’s Shady Lawn Seed, specifically formulated for areas receiving limited sunlight. However, a 300g box costing £9 only covers 10m2, making it more expensive than standard seeds.
