Roads across the country have been covered in centimetres-deep snow, grounding large swathes of the country to a halt and forcing schools to close early this morning
Snow has cascaded across the UK this morning, with a sudden Arctic blast causing chaos in some parts of the country, with several schools forced to close.
The Met Office warned today that snowfall totals could reach up to 30cm over high ground, with lower totals likely to prove “disruptive” elsewhere as the autumn flurries work their way across the Midlands, northern England and Scotland this morning. The agency has issued yellow alerts over two massive areas, with the UK Health and Security Agency (UKHSA) telling people to ensure they and their loved ones are prepared for the icy conditions.
Several schools across the areas affected by the sudden snowfall have decided to close their gates this morning, with many others opting to open later. According to local councils, more than a dozen schools, including nursery and secondary facilities, will not open for teaching today.
