People have been left feeling emotional after a heartwarming video of an elderly couple being offered free jacket potatoes has gone viral – and their response was extremely unexpected
The viral Spud Brothers have left fans in tears after their kind gesture for an elderly couple.
The Preston-based duo shared the video on their official TikTok account @thespudbrothers for their 3.6 million followers, where they offered the couple the viral food van’s last two potatoes free of charge as they walked past.
The thoughtful offer came at the perfect time for the couple, who seemed to be rather downcast and sad after revealing the elderly woman had just fallen over. As the staff member offered up the free meals he called: “Excuse me. Excuse me. Would you like two free jacket potatoes? Would you like some free food?” Noticing they were wary, the staff member continued: “Come on, we’ll warm you up. You look a bit cold out there.”
The couple nervously approached the van as they accepted the offer, and the potato vendor shared which toppings were available. He loaded on some garlic chili chicken and cheese and then asked the woman if she wanted one too. She looked upset and the man then explained that she had just fallen over.
The staff member appeared concerned and asked if they would like him to call anyone for help, but the man refused and explained she has Alzheimer’s and ordered her a potato with the same toppings. As the potato cook ladled on the toppings he sympathetically said: “As long as you are OK, that’s the main thing.”
The video has since racked up 16.2 million views, with many viewers “in tears” over the exchange between the couple and the vendor. One TikToker took to the comments and said: “I was already upset with the way she was just standing there shyly, then he said she just fell, and she’s got Alzheimer and then I’m sobbing and I’m not okay people with Alzheimer break my heart.”
Another viewer penned: “I don’t belive in coincidences. You just saved that man from having to cook for his wife who is sick and had fallen. That was very kind and the food looked delicious!! Lurpak too. Bonus points.” Others commended the kindness of the potato seller, with many thannking him for his generosity and offering them the free two meals.
