Wall Street’s major averages pushed higher Friday after the latest consumer inflation report came in largely in line with expectations. U.S. consumer prices rose 0.4% in August, matching forecasts after a 0.1% gain in July and leaving the year-over-year rate unchanged at 3.4%. Core CPI (ex-food and energy) increased 0.3% versus the 0.2% consensus and prior reading, while the annual core rate eased to 2.4% from 2.5%, in line with estimates.

The economic calendar is light for the upcoming week barring the Federal Reserve’s interest rate decision, which is due on Wednesday. August’s retail sales data will also be released on the same day. The FOMC will hold its press conference the following day, with initial jobless claims data and the Philadelphia Fed Manufacturing Index for September also scheduled for Thursday.

VinFast (VFS) is among the firms reporting in the coming week.
