Five Guys made the decision to make one branch fully halal, which meant removing alcohol and some popular items from its menu – with many locals appreciative of the change
Five Guys has decided to make one of its branches in Birmingham fully halal certified – and has ditched alcohol and other items on its menu.
Birmingham’s Fort Dunlop store is now one of only five Five Guys restaurants in the country to use halal beef. In order to comply with being halal certified, it has ditched bacon, hot dogs and alcohol from its menu.
Five Guys said: “Our burgers use halal certified British beef that is prepared following specific practices, as required to become halal certified, whilst maintaining humane and ethical standards without compromising on animal welfare according to UK and EU legislation.
“In order for the stores to be fully Halal certified we will not offer bacon, hot dogs or alcohol at these stores. In future, we may look to introduce a halal certified hot dog.”
The Fort Dunlop Five Guys is the only halal store in Birmingham. Other locations do not use halal beef and will continue to serve bacon, hot dogs and alcohol as usual, Birmingham Live reports. The branch currently has a 3.7 score out of five stars on Google Reviews, based on over 260 independent reviews. Daanish Shakeel said: “Really appreciate the service and food now it’s halal.”
Wahid Mohammed added: “Having worked at a Five Guys for over seven years, and now the Fort Dunlop store is halal, had to do one. Really enjoyed the burger even if it fell apart, patties were juicy. Fries slightly undercooked, but guess what, still good. Wife and I are stuffed and yes we would come back just for the burger, place was clean.”
Majvid Perez said: “With Five Guys recently becoming halal, I decided to check it out with my friends. The menu is simple, which I appreciated, and we went for cheeseburgers, cajun fries, and milkshakes. First impressions? It’s pricey – my meal came to £20.05, which is steep for a burger joint.
“The food itself was good but not amazing. The cheeseburger was decent, but not the best I’ve ever had. The fries were fine but the milkshake was absolutely delicious – definitely the highlight of the meal. Would I recommend it? If you’ve never tried Five Guys and don’t mind the price, it’s worth experiencing. But if you’re after the best halal burgers in Brum, there are better options.”
