The crisp giant altered the taste of one its fans’ favourite flavours to give it ‘more punch’ but it hasn’t gone down well at all with some enthusiasts who dubbed the news ‘terrible’
Crisps are a real weakness for many people who love to indulge in their most-loved salty snack and nearly everyone has that one flavour that beats all others. So if that particular recipe is changed, or worse, disappears entirely from shelves, it can cause quite a backlash from devotees.
This is what’s happened with a fan favourite from crisp giant Walkers. The company, which often likes to launch new wacky flavours, has changed the recipe of one of its most popular packets and it’s upset enthusiasts of the particular edition who were perfectly happy with the original taste of their number one savoury treat.
The update came to light when one massive fan of Thai Sweet Chilli Sensations took to X, formerly Twitter, to ask the company why their ‘perfect’ crisp had been altered: “@walkers_crisps why in God’s name has the recipe for Thai Sweet Chilli sensations been changed?! You had already created perfection in crisp form. This new recipe is not the one!” they wrote.
Walkers responded to the disgruntled muncher and explained why: “We recently updated the recipe to give the flavour a little more punch. We’re sorry to hear you’re not a fan but we appreciate you letting us know what you think!” they replied.
However, the dismayed former fan had her say on that too: “Unfortunately that punch tastes like chicken,” she wrote back and others backed up her culinary point of view.
One responded: “First you go and change the recipes for the original Walkers flavoured crisps which have been terrible ever since, and now you’ve changed SENSATIONS??? Why.” To which Walkers answered: “Sorry to hear you’re disappointed. Please drop into our DMs if we can help further.”
Another posted: “They were my fav crisp and now I’m v sad :(.” A third said: “Hmm. Sometimes the phrase “not broken, don’t fix it” applies. This is to be applied here. DM me please once you have reverted back. Not a fan of this edition.”
Another disappointed fan said: “I knew I wasn’t going mad. These were my best crisps for years. Not buying anymore until they change it back.” With another simply stating: “It’s so annoying.”
The crunchy news comes after the company recently revealed it was dropping another favourite flavour entirely from shelves. Worcester sauce crisps will be joining their meaty cousins Beef and Onion and BBQ Rib in the graveyard of taste sensations at Walkers. Fans of sweeter treats were left devastated recently too when Nestle revealed it would be axing its the iconic beige-coloured Caramac bars.
