Condensation can be a nightmare to tackle as the weather gets colder, but one product that costs just £3 could help reduce moisture levels – and slash your energy bills
The winter months can leave many households struggling with condensation and mould problems.
As condensation forms on your windows and evaporates, it creates moisture in the air that then clings to your walls and creates the perfect breeding ground for mould. If left to fester, this mould can grow and can not only leave your house with a musty smell but can also cause health problems.
But tackling condensation doesn’t have to be a nightmare, and you don’t have to spend every morning using a squeegee to remove all the moisture from the windows around your home. According to insulation and energy gurus, there’s one item that could help you beat the cold air this winter – and it only costs £3.
The tip was first shared by The Express, who claimed that one way to cut down on condensation build-up is to invest in window insulation film, which will give your windows an extra layer of protection from lower temperatures. The film should help to keep the cold air from outside away from the warm air inside your home, reducing the condensation that forms on the window. As an added benefit, it should also help to keep your home warmer – saving you cash on your energy bills.
Window insulation film can be bought from a number of hardware shops including B&Q, Wickes, and Screwfix, but can also be found on Amazon, where prices are as little as £3.35. But does the film really work?
According to experts at Green Match, yes. However, they insist the film won’t solve your heat retention problems if you windows “suffer from air-leak problems or the insulation in your house isn’t up to a good standard”. But if you have good windows that don’t need replacing, then insulation film will “make a massive difference in the comfort of your home”.
The experts added: “Window film not only benefits the comfort of your home but also energy costs, with better heat retention in your home leading to less wasted energy and reduced energy bills each week.”
Insulation film works by forming a heat-insulating air cushion adding an extra moisture-proofing layer to windows. A better-insulated home will have less condensation as there are fewer ways for the cold air from outside to make its way inside. You will also find that with stronger insulation, you have fewer damp spots elsewhere in your home.
