As much as nine inches will blanket the worst-hit areas, which include the north of England and the Scottish Highlands, as the British Isles are blasted with a healthy helping of snow after bringing in the New Year

Though Brits didn’t get a white Christmas this year there could be a snowy New Year as the white stuff is set to batter the British Isles in a number of days.

A weather forecast from WX Charts for January 2 says just one area will be spared from the barrage of snow set to fall, which could be as much as nine inches in the worst-hit areas. The Scottish Highlands and the north of England, including Yorkshire, the North East and North West, will face the brunt of the sub-zero conditions.

Most of England will be blanketed with snow, with between 1cm and 3cm covering most of the country. However, one area will escape the flurries as early predictions say the central and west Midlands are unlikely to see any snow.

The early Met Office outlook explains how Christmas week will be “cloudy and mild over the next few days,” reports Birmingham Live. The Boxing Day forecast adds: “Rain will affect central and southern Scotland and parts of Northern Ireland on Boxing Day. Mostly dry and mild, though rather cloudy, further south. Brighter, but colder, across northern Scotland.

“Remaining cloudy for most overnight with outbreaks of rain and drizzle across parts of central and northern Scotland, with clearer spells in the far north of Scotland. Mild.” Looking ahead to Friday (December 27), it explains: “Another mild and mostly cloudy day on Friday with patchy rain across parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland. Brighter and chilly in the far northwest with isolated showers.”

And the early outlook for Saturday to Monday, or December 28 to December 30, goes on to add: “Rain in the northwest clearing southeastwards through Saturday. Then brighter, but colder, with blustery showers, and later rain and hill snow in north on Sunday and Monday.”
