Evil arsonist and child killer Mick Philpott was on the wrong end of a brutal beating and left in a ‘bad way’ by a fellow lag in the notorious HMP Wakefield, according to a source

Evil killer dad Mick Philpott is said to be the target of fellow lags behind bars as he was left “battered and bruised” from a recent jail beating. Philpott, who killed six of his children when he set fire to his own home in 2012, was reportedly assaulted by another inmate at HMP Wakefield who launched an attack with a metal container

“Philpott was in a bad way after the attack – battered and bruised and with two large and noticeable lumps on the back of his head,” a source said.

“The other lad pounced on him and whacked him quite a few times from behind,” they told the Sun. “It was one bloke on his own – someone quite a bit younger than Philpott and it happened really quickly on the landing.”

The source described a “huge commotion” as guards rushed in to deal with the situation. They said Philpott, jailed after being convicted of six counts of manslaughter, could have come off a lot worse in the attack.

The source added that the 68-year-old had been feeling sorry for himself behind bars in the tough jail where some of Britain’s most notorious criminals have been held, such as serial killer doctor Harold Shipman and double child murderer Ian Huntley. The only sympathy held in the jail, however, is for the six children Philpott killed, according to the source. The source added that people in the jail were laughing after the attack.

The 2012 arson attack in Allenton, Derby, killed Duwayne, 13, Jade, 10, John, nine, Jack, seven, Jesse, six, and Jayden, five. Philpott, his wife Mairead and Paul Mosley planned to set the fire and frame an ex-lover, all while emerging as a hero after rescuing the children.

The Philpotts then held a shameless press conference in the wake of the fire, appearing to break down in despair at the loss of their children. But it was all a sham, and police bugged the hotel room where Philpott revealed their guilt.

In 2013, the evil trio were convicted of manslaughter. Mosley and Mairead have since been released while Mick, serving 15 years to life, is eligible for parole in 2028.

The source said that the inmate who allegedly attacked Philpott wanted to “make a name” for themselves. They added that the incident unfolded “really quickly”.

A Prison Service spokesperson said: “Violence will not be tolerated in the prison estate and anyone found guilty of wrongdoing will be punished.” The Mirror has approached the Prison Service and HMP Wakefield for further comment.
