Former British socialite turned convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell is serving a 20-year sentence in a US prison and is known to other inmates as a “Chomo” – prison slang for child molester

A woman who shared a cell with convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell has spoken about the gross behaviour the former British socialite gets up to in the all-female prison where she is serving her 20-year sentence.

Jeffrey Epstein’s girlfriend is locked up in a US federal prison after being convicted of child sex trafficking, as well other charges relating to conspiring with the late billionaire to abuse children. The woman who once shared a cell with the 64 year old, told American entertainment outlet TMZ that Maxwell stinks of BO had “horrible personal hygiene” and would “shower only once to twice a week”.

The pair were both serving time in FCI Tallahassee in Florida between 2023 and 2025 and would be in regular contact with each other. The unnamed inmate added that most prisoners shunned Maxwell, labelling her a “Chomo” prison slang for child molester and Maxwell would spend the majority of her time working out, adding to her issue with body odour.

Asked about whether anyone had ever tried to attack Maxwell at the low-security prison due to her convictions, but the former prisoner said as far as she was aware, no-one had ever laid their hands in as they didn’t want to be sent to “the hole”. She added: “It’s just not worth it.”

She added the “the hole” was a special unit, where inmates are locked up 24 hours a day and served cold meals, describing it as “very hard living”.

Maxwell was transferred out of the Florida prison in August and moved to Federal Prison Camp Bryan in Texas, an even more relaxed facility typically used for non–violent, white–collar criminals. The transfer came shortly after she met twice with US Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche to discuss her crimes and relationship with Epstein.

Prison staff at Camp Bryan were reportedly giving her special treatment and perks, including individual special meals delivered directly to her cell, another whistleblower revealed. The insider claimed she now had visitors in a special private area and is given snacks and refreshments.

Maxwell’s work out regime has reportedly carried on at Camp Bryan, the Judiciary Committee heard she was personally escorted after hours by prison guards so that she could work out by herself and was allegedly allowed to shower late at night when other inmates were already in bed.

They also claim her visitors are allowed to bring in laptops in, with allegations Maxwell used it to send emails to friends. Democrat Jamie Raskin said the whistleblower provided Maxwell’s email correspondence, which showed she told friends she was far more comfortable in her new facility.

It read: “‘Bryan is a different beast in every possible respect to Tal. It is a well managed well run institution with an execellent [sic] Warden who leads from the top.” She added the prison was “run in an orderly fashion which makes for a safer more comfortable environment for all people”.

She added: “In other words I feel like I have dropped through Alice in Wonderlands looking glass. I am much much happier here and more importantly safe.”

Her attorney, David Oscar Markus, has said that the prison transfer was made for Maxwell’s safety. He wrote on X: “I’m surprised to hear my progressive friends criticizing more humane prisons and Ghislaine’s transfer to a safer facility, especially after she faced serious danger in Tallahassee.

“The outrage machine wants to turn a safer placement into a scandal. But it’s still prison. And despite the soundbites, prison is a truly awful place.”
