The massive property has recently undergone a renovation with new paint and carpets fitted throughout, but the estate agent says its neighbourhood has a ‘historic notoriety’

An enormous eight-bedroom house is on the market for £375,000, but there’s one thing any prospective buyer should know. The huge property is located in Cromwell Street in Gloucestershire.

It sits right next door to one of Britain’s most notorious homes, where Fred and Rose West used to live. The pair carried out their horrific crimes at their home of 25 Cromwell Street.

Known as the House of Horrors, the property was demolished in 1996. And the listing for the home next door even acknowledges the fact the street has a “historic notoriety”.

It advises possible buyers to make their own enquiries before purchasing. But despite its eerie past, the property is packed with potential.

The three-storey building boasts seven bedrooms in the main house, alongside two reception rooms, a kitchen and a ground-floor shower room. There is also a cellar that could be used for extra living space.

It has two shower rooms spread across the first and second floors. And at the rear of the property there is a self-contained studio flat that has its own private entrance and garden, something that has been described as “ideal for a rental income or flexible living”.

The property was previously used as a HMO (house of multiple occupation) but the licence expired in April last year. It has since been freshly painted with new carpets fitted throughout, reports Luxury Property News.

The home needs “further refurbishment to reach its full potential,” estate agent Keller Williams says. It boasts off-road parking and is close to the Gloucester Quays shopping and leisure area.

The Wests raped and murdered an unknown number of women over a two decade period between 1967 and 1987. There are 12 known victims, with the pair being jointly charged for 10, and Fred West another two.

The bodies were typically buried in the garden or the cellar of their home address. The couple were arrested in 1994 after a police officer caught children joking that their missing daughter Heather was “buried under the patio”.

Fred West admitted to killing Heather after he was arrested. Her remains were subsequently discovered at Cromwell Street.

Fred West was charged with 12 murders but was found dead in his remand cell on January 1, 1995. Rose West was jailed for life for the murder of 10 young women and girls.

A garden and footpath now stands where their former home did.
