A new viral chocolate has gone on sale – and people describe it as having ‘hair’ inside it. The unique chocolate bar is pink on the outside, with a fluffy Turkish ‘cotton candy’ called pişmaniye in the centre
Move over Dubai chocolate, there’s a new sweet sensation causing a stir – and it has got “hair” in it.
Chocolate fans were in a frenzy last year over a sumptuous milk chocolate bar from Dubai, packed with pistachio crème, pistachio nut paste, and toasted kunafa. The craze for this indulgent treat, which blends contemporary confectionery with classic Middle Eastern tastes, took off on social media in 2021 thanks to the innovative creations of Fix Dessert Chocolatier’s Sarah Hamouda.
The trend for chocolates with unconventional fillings has only grown since then. Now, chocoholics are setting their beloved Dubai delights aside for the latest craze: the ‘Angel Hair Chocolate’. This pink-hued bar is causing quite the buzz.
Belgium, famed for its exquisite chocolate, is where this new treat hails from, crafted by the chocolatier Tucho. It’s become a global sensation, with orders flying in from around the world. Tucho boasts about the product, claiming, “This might be the fluffiest chocolate ever,” with a price tag of 21 euros (£17.96).
Carmie Sellitto, the popular food critic known as @touchdalight on TikTok, put the chocolate to the test to see if it lives up to the hype.
‘I live on a cruise ship – I get free food but there’s one weird rule I have to follow’
Describing the unique confection, Tucho said: “Experience the rich taste of this fluffy in-the-mouth-melting treat, filled with Pişmaniye (Turkish cotton candy), pistachio cream and a subtle hint of vanilla, pomegranate and raspberry. Discover the attention to detail and delightful flavours infused into each handmade masterpiece.”
Carmie expressed his surprise at the delight of the treat, saying: “Holy, this feels actually quite insane. It looks like a Lego.” He also noted that it smells “so good”.
As he pulled apart the chocolate, he remarked: “There’s actual hair in my chocolate. This is definitely the reason it’s going so viral.” Sharing his thoughts on the taste, he said: “I’ve never ever tried anything like this chocolate before it’s incredible.”
Carmie concluded: “The best chocolate I’ve ever had in my life.” Opinions were split among commenters – some were eager to try it while others were put off by its appearance. “I have to get some,” one person commented.
Another reviewer suggested: “If you love pink & chocolate you’ll adore this.” “This looks way better than viral Dubai chocolate,” another added. “Candy floss in chocolate basically,” one person observed.
“In Australia we call it fairy floss,” another pointed out. One commenter explained: “The ‘angel hair’ is a Turkish ‘cotton candy’ called pişmaniye, which is already delicious tasting by it’s own. Also it’s less sweeter than the actual cotton candy.”
One person joked that it “looks like loft insulation”. “I don’t like the look of it,” another admitted. “Look like insulation, I couldn’t,” another echoed.
The Tucho ‘Angel Hair Chocolate’ is exclusively available in store at Chocotale Antwerp in Belgium, but can be ordered online and shipped from the Tucho website or Etsy.
