The BMW driver has left people scratching their heads after they managed to park their car on two sets of double yellow lines – and appeared to get away without a ticket
A hapless driver has been mocked after they managed to park their car on two sets of double yellow lines.
The hilarious picture shows a BMW left at the end of an alleyway close to one of London’s busiest transport hubs. Amazingly, the driver hadn’t even been given a ticket for their dozy parking at the time the photo was taken.
It was snapped by Tim Dunn, who regularly walks past the very narrow Bursar Street in Southwark not far from London Bridge Station. At its narrowest end, the road is only around 5ft wide, with double yellow lines on each side.
The dark-coloured BMW was wedged at the end of the old tiny horse-and-cart-sized road, with its wheels firmly on the yellow warning lines on three sides. Tim said: “Every day for years I’ve walked this alley thinking ‘Ha! What silly OTT double-yellow lines those are, nobody would dream of trying to park there’… then today..”
Reacting to the bizarre attempt at parking, one person who saw the tweet said: “I hope you called parking enforcement.” Tim replied: “It is next to Southwark’s offices – I think someone will spot it fairly fast!”
Other internet users rolled their eyes at the fact it was a BMW committing the parking foul. “Had to be a BMW,” one said, while another added: “BMW driver. Enough said.” Others tried to figure out how exactly driver must have got into the tiny space. “Did they….. reverse the whole way in?!” one person said.
Another said: “You see people park on double yellow lines all the time with no thought for the fact that they’re there for a reason. What’s most impressive here is that the driver has double yellows on three sides yet has still ignored them.” Bursar Street is believed to have been named after William Waynflete, Bishop of Winchester in the 15th century, who left property to the area in his endowment.
