Dog owners can save on doing laundry as there is a really method to stop pet hair getting all on your bed, and it only takes a few seconds to do
Mornings with dogs can be absolute mayhem – they’ll have you up at the crack of dawn demanding to go out or simply craving a fuss, leaving your bedding absolutely smothered in fur. Whilst plenty of dog owners cherish those early snuggles, they do make maintaining a clean bed considerably trickier, often necessitating multiple sheet changes throughout the week to keep things fresh.
However, interior designer Jennifer Adams has revealed there’s a remarkably straightforward method to banish dog hair from your bedding in mere seconds – and all you require is a rubber glove. She explained: “Put on a rubber glove and rub it across the surface of your bedding. As you wipe your glove on the bedding, the friction causes static and picks up the hairs. Another option is to dampen the glove before running your hand over your bedding, which will also attract hairs. Rinse off your glove and repeat.”
Rubber possesses considerable grip, and when rubbed against fabric, it generates static electricity that attracts debris such as pet hair, which typically proves challenging to remove.
Slightly dampening the glove can also prove beneficial, as it enhances the attraction and helps the hair clump together more effectively, allowing you to clear it all in a single sweep.
How else can dog owners keep their beds clean?
Establish a daily routine of brushing your dog’s coat, as this will eliminate any loose hairs and prevent them from spreading throughout your property. It would also be a wise move to invest in a few extra sheets or throw blankets to cover your bed, ensuring you never have to fret over mucky paws spoiling a freshly laundered duvet cover.
Jennifer advised: “One of the simplest things you can do is to keep a few spare flat sheets – in white, or any other colour that takes your fancy – on hand to use as a protective bedspread, swapping them out as required.”
There’s also a nifty bed-making technique employed by hotels known as the triple-sheet method, which essentially involves nestling a duvet between two sheets.
This trick helps shield your duvet cover and sheets, keeping them spotless for longer so you don’t need to wash them quite so frequently.
Jennifer added, “For a more refined finish that only adds a few extra seconds to your bed-making routine, take a leaf out of the hotel industry’s book. Instead of a traditional duvet cover, safeguard the insert with an extra sheet.”
How to master the triple sheet method.
All you need to do is fit a sheet over the mattress corners as you usually would. Then, spread a flat sheet on top and tuck the corners under.
Position your duvet on top of the flat sheet, aligning it evenly. After that, simply lay a second flat sheet over the duvet, tuck it in, and your bed will be well defended against any naughty pets.
