A home renovation expert has taken to TikTok to share her handy hack for painting interior doors, which will give them a more expensive look – and all you need is a common supermarket item

A budget DIY enthusiast and renovation expert has revealed a thrifty tip to elevate your interior paint projects.

Taking to TikTok, DIY fan Claire (@roseleigh_rose), unveiled that she’d only spent £2.49 on an item she used to upgrade plain doors to appear more “luxurious”.

In her video, viewers watched as Claire tackled an old white door in her home, adding layers of grey before applying a black finish.

“I decided to use a £2.49 tanning mitt to paint my cheap doors and try and make them a little more lux looking, don’t think it went too bad,” she wrote as a caption with the footage.

Claire added: “It was so easy to do and it got the paint right into the grooves. FYI [for your information] I wore a plastic glove under the tanning mitt just in case.”

At the end of her tutorial, she zoomed in to show off the stellar results a flawlessly revamped door that looked brand new.

Her 2,000-plus followers were quick to comment, eager to test the hack themselves. “What a belting idea,” exclaimed one user. While another said: “I’ll be doing this… absolutely excellent idea.”

Someone else praised the technique, saying: “Oh this is fabulous, I am deciding to paint my door grey instead of boring white and that’s a great way to go about it. I will definitely be trying this. Thanks.”

While another social media user commented: “It looks amazing just for a tanning mitt, made the grain pop out in door.” Another person joked: “Alright for doors and bannisters, but not for walls – be there all day.”

In a follow-up video, meanwhile, Claire demonstrated her unique method on her skirting boards. “Following on from my painting my interior doors black I’m at it again this time I’m painting the skirting boards,” she shared.

After taking off the wooden frames, she put on her mitt again, dipped it in white paint and got to work. She carefully placed each board on a raised surface and rubbed the paint in, restoring them to their sparkling best.

“You have totally changed my love for decorating as single mature women doing everything myself,” one of her followers praised in response. “Clever idea,” chimed in another.
