The Jet2 flight was on its way from Edinburgh to Dalaman in Turkey when the aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing in Cologne, Germany, on Tuesday evening

German police stormed onto a Jet2 flight from Edinburgh after it was diverted due to a mid-air incident.

The plane, bound for Dalaman in Turkey, was forced to make an unscheduled landing in Cologne on Tuesday evening because of two “disruptive passengers” who were later kicked off. Two officers boarded the plane and marched up the aisle to where the unruly passengers were seated, as shocked fellow travellers looked on.

The flight eventually arrived in Dalaman three hours behind schedule, having departed Edinburgh shortly after 4pm on October 8. According to FlightRadar24, the plane took off from Edinburgh on time but was due to land in Dalaman at around 10.30pm. Instead, it left Cologne at 9.30pm.

A Jet2 spokesperson confirmed that two passengers were offloaded for “disruptive behaviour”, which also impacted the return flight from Dalaman to Edinburgh. The airline was forced to provide hotel accommodation and refreshments to affected passengers, reported Edinburgh Live.

“We can confirm that flight LS781 from Edinburgh to Dalaman diverted to Cologne yesterday (Tuesday 8th October) due to disruptive passenger behaviour,” the spokesperson said. “The flight departed for Dalaman after two passengers were offloaded by police, however the subsequent Dalaman to Edinburgh flight had to night stop in Dalaman.

“We have arranged for hotel accommodation and refreshments for everyone and will have them on their way home as soon as possible.” Earlier this year, frustrated passengers on board a TUI plane were forced to sit on the tarmac for two hours after “disruptive” guests held up the flight.

The plane was set to head from Glasgow Airport to Cancun, Mexico, on May 29 but it didn’t take off until 12.28pm following the incident. A spokesperson for the airline said they do not tolerate “unacceptable behaviour” which is why they had to escort the group off the plane.

TUI apologised for the hold up and explained that they had to put the safety of the rest of the passengers first. A spokesperson for TUI UK and Ireland said: “We’d like to apologise to customers on TOM684 from Glasgow to Cancun, who had a delayed departure due to disruptive passengers on board the flight.

“Our goal is to ensure customers have the best possible flight experience, so this is not the way we wanted their holiday to start.” The spokesperson told Glasgow Live: “The safety of our customers and crew is our number one priority and any unacceptable behaviour will not be tolerated. The customers involved were offloaded from the aircraft and the flight was able to continue its journey. The flight departed Glasgow for Cancun at 12.28pm, Wednesday, May 29.”
