Disney+ has set a streaming release date for Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts*, and there’s not long to wait. Coming later this month, the superhero epic centres around a misfit team of anti-heroes who have been assembled to embark on a dangerous mission.
Among The New Avengers are supporting characters from previous films including Bucky Barnes, Yelena Belova, Red Guardian, Ghost, Taskmaster and John Walker. After finding themselves ensnared in a death trap set by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, the dysfunctional group are forced to band together and confront the darkest corners of their pasts.
Hailing from director Jake Schreier, Thunderbolts* marks the final feature-length chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) Phase Five. It boasts a stacked ensemble cast including Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell, David Harbour, Olga Kurylenko, Lewis Pullman and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
Despite failing to break even at the box office, the movie was seen by some as a return to form for the superhero franchise following several underwhelming instalments such as Captain America: Brave New World.
It has since racked up an 88% Rotten Tomatoes score, with The Daily Record praising the film’s ‘terrific, turbulent team’, adding that it ‘cleverly uses human emotions and psychological issues to grand effect’.

The Los Angeles Times called it ‘a film of undeniable merit’, arguing that it stands out among the similar recent offerings. However, in its mixed, three-star review, Empire said Thunderbolts* ‘dares to be different’ but ‘doesn’t always land’.
Since its launch, Marvel has released two further instalments of the MCU with the Disney+ Ironheart series and the theatrical release of The Fantastic Four: First Steps. But for those keen to catch up, here’s when Thunderbolts* is coming to Disney+.

How to watch Thunderbolts
Thunderbolts* will be streaming exclusively on Disney+, which starts at £4.99 for a monthly subscription that can be cancelled at any time. Members can get the equivalent of two months free by paying for a year upfront on the Standard or Premium plan.
This gets users 12 months for the price of 10 and a saving up to £25.98. The Standard plan now costs £89.90, while the Premium plan is £129.90 and also includes higher video quality up to 4K UHD and HDR.
The Premium plan also lets users stream on four devices simultaneously. Membership also includes recent series such as Alien: Earth, The Bear and weekly La Liga football.
Elsewhere, Prime Video has confirmed that season two of Fallout will premiere in December and take audiences through the wasteland of the Mojave to the post-apocalyptic city of New Vegas. It comes as Sky is gearing up for the second outing of DC’s Peacemaker, set to debut on August 22.
