A major search is underway after two teen schoolgirls went missing after visiting a leisure centre. The two girls, Sofia, 13, and Carla, 14, were last seen wearing their school uniform at the Abraham Moss library and leisure centre in Crumpsall at 4.45pm Thursday.
Police have issued a public appeal, asking anyone with information about the youngsters to get in touch as a matter of urgency. Officers say the pair are known to visit Piccadilly Gardens and The Printworks in Manchester city centre. Sofia is described as white, slim, with long dark hair and is said to wear glasses. When she went missing, she was wearing her uniform from St Monica’s High School – a PE polo top, black shorts, and black shoes, according to Greater Manchester Police.
Carla, 14, is Black, around 5ft 4in tall, with long hair in braids. She was last seen wearing her St Monica’s School green blazer, black puffer coat and black school shoes.
In a bulletin published by GMP about the missing duo, the force said: “Sofia and Carla are thought to be together and are known to frequent Piccadilly Gardens, Manchester and around the Printworks area.
“Officers are becoming increasingly concerned about the welfare of Sofia and Carla and want to ensure sure they are safe and well.”
The latest bulletin came after two other schoolgirls were reported missing earlier this week – this time from the Kirklees area in West Yorkshire.
The youngsters – Amy-Leigh Heward and Hannah Tofik – both 15, hand’t been seen since they were reported missing on Monday. Neither of the teens had been at school or home, and there were no reported sightings to date.
West Yorkshire Police appealed for the public’s help to locate them and have issued a detailed description of the girls and what they were last seen wearing.
Amy-Leigh was described as white, 5ft 8 with brown/red straight should length hair. She was last seen wearing grey jeans, a cream zip-up jacket and white Nike trainers.
Hannah is described as white, 5ft 6 and of slim build with blonde/brown hair. She was last seen in the Dewsbury area wearing a black Adidas jacket with stripes on the arms, white crop top, black leggings and white trainers, and carrying a Nike rucksack.
A police statement reads: “Police are appealing for information to help locate two teenage girls who have been reported missing from the Kirklees area.
“Amy-Leigh Heward, 15, and Hannah Tofik, 15, were reported missing on Sunday evening.
“It is thought they may have travelled to the North Yorkshire area.
“Officers are asking anyone with any information about their whereabouts to please contact them quoting log 1929 of June 1.
