Residents in a Lancashire town have been evacuated from their homes this afternoon after a mains gas leak, as a ‘hissing’ sound has been heard.

Hundreds of households in the area of Chapels and Goose House Lane were told to leave their homes this afternoon at around 2pm due to the gas leak which has come from the mains. Firefighters, police and gas network management firm Cadent are on the scene to investigate.

Blackburn and Drawen Borough Council issued a statement saying that “Goose House Lane was closed from Hollins Grove St and Lower Eccleshill Rd, through to the junction with Chapels Brow. Gordon Street is also closed. Diversions are in place while Cadent investigate reports of a gas leak.”
