Two of the teenagers who were jailed for killing 75-year-old Fredi Rivero in an ‘unprovoked attack’ in London, were sisters – and details of their past have emerged

Three teenage girls savagely killed a pensioner on the streets of London in an ‘unprovoked attack’ and proceeded to film the horrific assault on their phone. Two of them were sisters, and since their sentencing last Friday, details have emerged of their chilling past, which led to the killing.

The two sisters, 14 and 16, along with their 17-year-old friend, viciously assaulted Fredi Rivero, 75, on the streets of Islington, north London, on February 27, 2025. Bolivian national Mr Rivero had been waiting near a bus stop on Seven Sisters Road when the teenagers got off a bus and surrounded him.

The teenagers, who are now 15, 17 and 17, pushed, shoved, kicked and punched him, with one of them filming the incident on her phone, the Old Bailey heard earlier this month. CCTV was shown to the court, which revealed the girls stepping off a bus – one clutching a bottle of vodka, then during an initial exchange, Mr Rivero made a peace sign, they walked away and then returned to him.

Mobile phone footage was also shown to the court, which revealed one of the girls yanking his spectacles off his face, then one striking him before he tumbled backwards. The prosecution said the eldest girl delivered the fatal blow, and police later found Mr Rivero unconscious on the pavement, but he died in hospital the following day.

On Friday, October 3, the three girls were jailed for a total of nine years after previously pleading guilty to manslaughter. The judge sentenced the eldest girl to four years’ detention, the younger 17-year-old was given three-and-a-half years, and the 15-year-old girl was handed a two-and-a-half year sentence.

Detective Inspector Devan Taylor, who spearheaded the Met’s investigation, said: “This was a completely unprovoked attack by three teenage girls, on an elderly man who was just going about his day. The fact they filmed the attack and found it funny is even more sickening.”

Chillingly, when one of the sisters, who was 16 at the time, was first arrested on suspicion of murder, her response to the police had been: “My New Year’s resolution was not to get arrested this year. It’s already done and it’s not even f****** March.”

This is just one of the horrifying details that have emerged about the sisters who carried out the fatal attack with their friend. The Daily Mail reports that the two sisters grew up not far from the notorious women’s prison at Holloway and lived in a maisonette with their two parents and brother.

Their father worked at the airport but later started taking drugs. The news publication reports that their father began “lying, stealing from friends, begging from neighbours to feed his addiction”, which began to take over his family’s life.

According to reports, he even resorted to stealing his children’s Christmas presents from under the tree in a bid to sell and raise money for drugs. In 2018, he robbed his friend of 20 years and viciously stabbed him repeatedly in the back and again in the throat.

He reportedly stole more than £10,000 from his friend, who was left paralysed from the terrifying ordeal. The girl’s father was sentenced to 20 years for wounding with intent, served concurrently with a nine-year and six-month sentence for robbery, four months for possession of an imitation firearm and seven days for possession of class A drugs.

The sisters are thought to have grappled with a turbulent home life, with their father absent from their lives while they were in Year 3 and Year 5 of primary school. It was reported that they began skipping school, dabbled in drink and drugs, and stayed out into the early hours of the morning.

A former friend, who grew up near the sisters, recalled memories of the pair and told the Mail how they would “play in a park behind the flats”. They added that they were “nice kids” and that the “family seemed decent enough”.

However, the friend noted: “They changed as they got older and as their house became ravaged with alcohol and hard drugs.” Before they added: “When he [their dad] went to prison for nearly stabbing his friend to death, I noticed an even bigger change in the girls – they became much more aggressive.”

They recalled that their mum “didn’t seem to care” that the girls were “drinking alcohol and openly smoking weed outside their house”. The friend also claimed that the family would have “loud parties” even during the week, and the sisters became “hostile and threatening to people”.

The two sisters would reportedly beat up people sleeping on the streets, vandalise local shops or restaurants, and insult passers-by, while recording a lot of this on their mobile phones. They were said to be joined by the 17-year-old girl, who was a friend of the older sister, which led the trio to fatally attack Mr Rivero on that horrifying night in February.
