A new Olaplex scalp product has hit shelves and it’s promising to be just what your dry and flaky scalp needs
It’s easy to overlook the scalp when considering hair care routines. We tend to tackle texture and volume issues before we even think about our scalp. However, much like the skin on our face, it requires attention and care to maintain overall hair health. An unhealthy scalp can lead to issues such as dandruff, itchiness, and even hair loss – problems many of us will have experiences ourselves.
To combat some of the unsighly side effects of an unhappy scalp, Olaplex has introduced the No.0.5 Scalp Longevity Serum, aiming to address these concerns by promoting a balanced and nourished environment.
How it works
The No.0.5 Scalp Longevity Serum is a lightweight, leave-in treatment designed to hydrate and soothe the scalp. Its formula boasts a blend of ceramides, hyaluronic acid and rice bran oil, ingredients known for their hydrating and strengthening properties. Also, the serum contains a pro-balancing blend of black pepper seed, magnolia bark, patchouli extra , and manuka branch leaf oil, which work together to support the scalp’s microbiome and protect against environmental stressors like pollution and central heating.
The serum’s gel-like texture makes the application process straightforward and mess-free. Using the needle-nose applicator, you simply section the hair and apply the product directly to my scalp, targeting three to four sections on the crown and back of the head. It can be used on wet hair before styling or on dry hair as an overnight treatment.

Pros: The nozzle makes it very simple to use, doesn’t leave any residue, good for those with fine and thicker hair, instant reduction in itchiness
Cons: There could be more product in the bottle, it takes a few weeks to really notice a difference, might not fully clear dandruff in more extreme cases
The reviews
One happy Sephora buyer pens: “I have struggled with dry scalp and dandruff for years. My scalp tends to flare up pretty badly with cold and dry weather, or sometimes even hormonal reasons. As most know, if you attempt to scratch or fluff the flakes out of your hair, it just makes it 10 times worse. I began having to wash my hair more often just to get rid of the embarrassing flakes.
“I’ve tried many different dandruff products, but most either take too long to see results, or my scalp almost becomes resistant after long term use. I began using this several weeks ago and to be honest, I wasn’t expecting much relief from my dandruff. My scalp just drinks it right up. After applying the first time, the itching and discomfort I was experiencing went down drastically. I was still seeing flakes, but I kept up with my applications. After roughly a week of every day use, my scalp looked better than ever. My dandruff was finally cleared up!”
Another praises it, saying: “The application is super easy—the nozzle makes it simple to target the scalp without making a mess. It feels lightweight and absorbs quickly without leaving any residue or greasiness, which I appreciate. I noticed that my scalp feels much more balanced since using this, and I experience less of that heavy, clogged feeling I usually get after a few days of styling products.”
A third offered more of a balanced review, writing: “I really had high hopes for this serum but I didn’t like it that much. It was a little on the thick side and I can’t tell a difference in my scalp either.”
Head of beauty Zoe says
I never used to suffer from a dry, itchy scalp, but ever since I had a bad experience with some strong bleach near my roots, I find the front sections of my scalp are prone to persistent dryness and flaking, while the back of my head often feels itchy due to product build-up.
After using this new Olaplex serum for a few weeks, I can definitely say my scalp feels fresher, less dry and just generally healthier. There’s no greasy residue, no weird build-up—just a lightweight formula that absorbs quickly and gets to work. It’s like skincare for your scalp, and I’m here for it. Would I recommend it? Absolutely—especially if your scalp tends to feel a bit neglected or gets dry and irritated. It’s not an immediate fix but with weekly use, the itching and flaking does reduce.
