A savvy shopper shared a simple trick to save money on groceries in the coming days – and it’s a really great way to stock up on cheap produce ahead of January

The days following Christmas present a golden opportunity for bargain hunters on the lookout for yellow sticker deals.

Supermarkets typically over-order ahead of the festive rush for Christmas and New Year celebrations. But once the festivities wrap up, they are left with an abundance of seasonal fare, party spreads, meats, cheeses, puddings, and other perishables.

They must be shifted swiftly before their use-by dates pass – or it’ll mean food waste and a loss of money too. Stores also want to clear the goods because they need to make space for fresh stock as the new year gets underway.

That’s why shoppers would be wise to pop down to their local supermarkets as soon as possible. You could not only snap up budget-friendly grub for January, but also bulk buy and freeze items to keep them going for weeks ahead.

Thrifty dad Elliot Jeory offered his advice on shopping over the coming days. The savvy shopper, from Preston in Lancashire, recently paid a visit to Aldi and found some cracking savings.

He said: “The food sale is now on and they’ve reduced all the Christmas food to really cheap. Some of the reductions are better than half price.”

The money-saving influencer revealed there’s one specific aisle that deserves your full attention. He urged: “Just go to the Christmas section and look for yellow sticker. You’ll see loads of bargains.”

The abundance of yellow sticker markdowns in this area stems from supermarkets’ eagerness to shift stock before the interest in festive products evaporates entirely come January.

The tactic proved highly effective when Elliot visited his local supermarket.

He snapped up branded products for as little as 99p, including Cadbury Puds and Mr Kipling Festive Bakewells. The dad also spotted gifting biscuit tins priced at just £4.99.

Shoppers expressed their gratitude for the tip in the comments section. One wrote: “Well done what a find.” Another added: “Bargains and massive savings”.

Others shared their own bargain discoveries. One commented: “Asda just mugged every supermarket off. I spent £20 today and got two bags rammed full of good experience stuff. Found about 15 advent calendars too – 2p each.”

Meanwhile, a fellow shopper revealed: “I had a box of shortbread and a tin of Danish cookies for less than £3.” Very impressive!
