Costa employees have outlined the four common actions that leave them feeling exasperated while they are on shift. So have you been guilty of doing any of these?

Costa employees have revealed a list of things they wish they could say to customers – but they somehow find the strength to hold it in!

While many of us enjoy relaxing in the popular cafe chain with a latte in hand, it isn’t always as chilled out for workers who have to deal with inconsiderate members of public.

On Reddit, a Costa worker asked fellow baristas: ‘What’s something you would like to say to customers? I’ve made this post as I’m just curious to know if there’s something you would like to tell customers but are not able to.”

To kick things off, they added their own gripe. The employee urged: “Dear customers, please stop putting your empty sugar sachets and napkins into your finished latte glass.”

This prompted others to pipe up with their own infuriating experiences. It turns out that even if you think you are being the dream customer, there’s a chance you have made one of these common mistakes. So here’s everything you need to know…

1. Moving chairs around

While you may believe you’re not creating issues by moving your seat or pushing tables together, you could unwittingly be causing chaos.

Not only do employees have to move these back, there’s a chance you could be blocking walkways or causing a fire hazard.

One barista begged: “Stop rearranging the bloody furniture”. And the original poster added: “Or at least put it BACK”.

2. Put napkins in the bin

Some customers may think they are ‘helping’ by stuffing their napkins into used mugs or crockery. However, this means workers then have to touch them.

If you want to actually have a positive impact, throw the napkins in the bin with any other rubbish.

An employee said: “Stop stuffing napkins in those tiny milk jugs. I’ll admit I used to bin a few when I genuinely could not be a***d after a long day.”

3. Leave trays on the table

In pubs, it’s common courtesy for people to return their empty glasses to the bar. But apparently, you shouldn’t return trays at Costa because employees often need these to transport empty mugs and plates.

A Redditor said: “Don’t leave your trays in random places? Or give me your full tray when you can see I’m serving other customers or making food. Leave it on the table, we’ll take it when we’ve got a chance.”

Echoing this sentiment, the original poster said: “Also stop taking the tray to your table, taking your drinks off, and putting the tray back on the bar. Go to clear the table later and there’s like 12 glasses and no tray!!”

4. Don’t leave the loos in a state

You should treat public toilets like you would your home bathrooms – helping to keep them clean and being mindful of others who might need to use them.

Failing to do this can cause a stink for other members of pulbic and it’s pretty gross for employees too.

One Costa barista pleaded: “In the name of holy God, learn to use the toilet, it’s like a dirty protest in there and we are not issued with hazmat suits.”
