During episode 4 of BBC’s The Traitors, Claudia Winkleman wore a skirt by Needle & Thread, which retails over £300, and we’ve found a similar style for under £40

There’s no denying the latest series of BBC’s The Traitors has upped the ante in more ways than one. With the drama building episode on episode between the Traitors and Faithfuls, us viewers can’t get enough of the show’s twists and turns and never-done-before scenes. But one thing remains: host Claudia Winkleman and her enviable show wardrobe (curated by long-time stylist Sinead McKeefry).

During last week’s episode four, us fashion fans were left in awe of her ensemble for the mission that married a whole host of styles, from romantic frills to traditional heritage print to chunky, cosy winter-wear all in one look. While we loved her Harris Tweed Coat from Brora (£745) and Mr Mittens Ribble Beanie (€155), it was her tiered tulle skirt from Needle & Thread that seriously stole the show – sorry Faithfuls.

The exact skirt – we believe it to be the Hattie Ruffle Ankle Skirt – is in the realm as the rest of her outfit in terms of price, and costs £325. However, we’ve discovered a similar style at River Island that’s not only cheaper than Claudia’s number for its RRP, but is also currently on sale.

The Cream Tulle Mesh maxi Skirt usually retails at £59, but for a limited time in River Island’s sale it cost £32 – and all sizes (six to 18) are still in stock. While this design doesn’t have the same subtle polka dot pattern Needle & Thread’s bears, its got a similar multi-tiered swish.

This makes it unbelievably romantic and feminine that is perfect for fancy dinners, events and can even be dressed down – as inspired by Claud herself – with a mix-and-match vibe made up of a knit, oversized coat and chunky boots.

The Cream Tulle Mesh Maxi Skirt from River Island also comes in brown and is currently on sale for £32.

Although it doesn’t have quite so many tiers as the original skirt, River Island’s look is likely to be a little lighter in weight because of this, which is always a welcome detail.

I can see this skirt working well in the summer for festivals too, pairing gorgeously with an oversized graphic or band tee and some platform sandals – like these Gryphon Quad Leather Platform Sandals, £140, from Dr Martens (another favourite brand of the former Strictly Come Dancing presenter’s).

Although Claudia’s skirt is more of a beige-blush hue, the River Island skirt comes in both a cream hue and brown, for those who prefer a darker shade, and looks way more expensive thanks to its ruffles and maxi length.

For those who want more of a pink shade and don’t mind spending a bit more on top quality, All Saints’ Aude Ruffle Maxi Skirt is £199 and has an equally as ethereal vibe – although it’s important to note it’s not lined all the way down to its hem, which means wearers’ legs will be seen through it.

Adding comfort into the mix, it looks like the skirt has an elasticated waistband – which differs from the Needle & Thread skirt, it seems to have a more structured waist – which is the same as River Island’s £32 style.

While there are no reviews to go off regarding the River Island skirt, our only thing to take note of is that it’s made from nylon (polyamide) as opposed to recycled polyester, meaning it may not be as breathable as the Needle & Thread Hattie skirt. That won’t stop us, however, from trying to recreate Claudia’s iconic look.
