As part of the loyalty scheme shake-up, Co-op said shoppers needed to use their previously built up rewards pots by 11:59pm on Tuesday, December 31
Co-op member shoppers only have a few hours left to cash in their rewards balance or risk losing it for good.
The supermarket chain – which has five million members of its loyalty scheme – used to reward customers with 2p for every £1 spent on Co-op branded goods or services.
Shoppers could then use these rewards to spend on future purchases at the supermarket. However, this changed as part of a shake-up announced earlier this year. However, this changed recently, and you can no longer earn cash rewards. Instead, you get discounts on your shopping through the Co-op “Member Prices” scheme, plus personalised offers based on what you buy.
As part of the shake-up, Co-op said shoppers needed to use their previously built up rewards pots by 11:59pm on Tuesday, December 31. If you miss this deadline, then you will lose them. It’s also important to note that as it’s New Year’s eve – some Co-Op supermarket stores will be closing a little earlier than normal.
You can find out how much balance you have to spend by checking your latest Co-op receipt, or by logging into your account through the Co-op website or app. You can find it in the “Wallet’ section” of the Co-op app. You can only spend your rewards balance on items purchased in store – you won’t be able to use it for home deliveries.
Alternatively, you can also donate your balance to various causes supported by the Co-op. Independent co-operatives – such as the Central England, Chelmsford Star, Southern and Midcounties co-ops – have their own separate loyalty schemes which aren’t affected by this change.
At the time, the Co-op said: “Rather than earning a few pence on rewards, our Members will now make substantial savings on their shop with immediate discounts being applied at the till. Overall, a bigger saving on Co-op, and branded products.”
