Want to liven up a blazer or an oversized shirt? We have just the hack for you

Festive season is upon us, and finding something to wear can feel like a losing battle when there is just so much on offer from our favourite high street brands. From sparkling dresses to sleek tailoring or rhinestone blouses, the list goes on. It’s overwhelming.

But, what if we told you about a nifty styling hack that will get your pre-owned blazers looking party ready in a matter of seconds? And not just that, but by using items that everyone will already have in their homes? You can thank us later.

All you need is a blazer. It doesn’t have to be plain; you can choose whichever style you like. And then, you need at least three pairs of your favourite statement stud earrings.

If you don’t have a blazer, you can find many affordable options, like H&M’s Black Tie-Detail Wrap Blazer, £44.99, or M&S’ Mole-coloured Collarless jacket.£50. Once you’ve decided on your blazer, take the sleeve and simply arrange your earrings in the order in which you would like them to lie.

Now, all you do is put the back of the earring through the button holes, securing them with the butterfly backs. If your blazer doesn’t have any buttons, then you can slot the pin of the earring through the seam to create the illusion that there are.

Experiment with the size of earrings and their design. You can opt for statement pieces, such as River Island’s Pink Feather Drop Earrings, £18, or New Look’s Gold Tone Cream Resin Large Flower Stud Earrings, a bargain at £7.99, which look more expensive than they are. Equally, you can go for the laid back and understated approach with earrings like Abbot Lyon Gold Pearl Molten Stud Earrings, for £39.

Our top tip would be to alternate sizes if you’re doing more than two, so they aren’t all the same scale and overlapping one another. But equally, if you want a dramatic look, then go for it. It’s all about having fun.

Other earrings that we think are perfect for this hack are the likes of ASOS DESIGN stud earrings with flower design in orange, £10, Katie Loxton Amelie Waterproof Gold Bow Oversized Earrings, £24.99, or these stunning Anthropologie Sequin Earrings, £42.

Doing this hack with your favourite jewels means you get to show them off more, and also impress your friends with your styling skills.

If you love this idea and want to do more, why not reuse your beloved earrings as a brooch and have them positioned front and centre on the lapel or left side of the jacket to add a subtle elevation to your ensemble? Happy DIY-ing!
