The leading card and gift retailer urged its customers to return the item to one of its stores to receive a refund after serious fire safety concerns were revealed
One of the UK’s most popular card and gift shops has issued a warning to customers to stop using a product “immediately” due to serious safety concerns. Card Factory, the nation’s leading retailer of greetings cards and party products, announced that it was recalling the “Tatty Teddy Cushion”.
The cushions, which come in a range of designs and have been sold since 2022, “do not meet UK fire safety standards”, the retailer explained. In a notice on its website, it said: “Carte Blanche Greeting Ltd are voluntarily recalling the below cushions.”
Card Factory told customers to “please stop using this item immediately”, adding: “As a precautionary measure, please do not consume and return the product to a Card Factory store, where you will be given a full refund. For further enquiries please contact customerservice@cardfactory.co.uk.”
The retailer thanked customers for their cooperation and apologised for any inconvenience caused. The Office for Product Safety and Standards also shared a recall notice for the cushions, which read: “The product presents a serious risk of fire as they do not meet the required fire safety standards.” The cushions do not meet the requirements of the Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988, it explained.

Previous recalls issued by Card Factory include a mug, wax burner, and chocolates. Last year, the retailer recalled a bag of Easter eggs as the ingredients list on the packages may have been incorrectly printed only in Polish.
The notice explained: “As this product contains peanuts, milk and soy; and may contain other nuts, eggs, and cereals containing gluten, it is a possible health risk to anyone with a specific allergy or intolerance to these ingredients.”
A “Wonderful Teacher” mug was also recalled several years ago as it was incorrectly labelled as “microwave safe”. The recall notice read: “The handle of the mug can easily overheat in the microwave causing burns. As a precautionary measure, please stop using the item immediately and return the product to a Card Factory store, where you will be given a full refund.”
Food-related product recalls issued over the past month include Castelli UK Ltd’s Le Superbe Raclette in Tesco stores due to the “possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes”. Morrisons has had to recall its The Best 6 Thick Cumberland Sausages because the product may contain small pieces of blue plastic.
Meanwhile, Asda customers have been notified of a recall of the supermarket’s Hot and Spicy chicken breast slices because the product shows an incorrect use-by date.
The Food Standards Agency also revealed that Ottolenghi has had to recall its Vadouvan Pita Chips because they contain celery and mustard which are not mentioned on the label – which can pose an allergy risk.
